Sometimes you want something just because there is a possibility that you cannot have it. Other times you are reluctant to have something simply because it came too easy.
Tell me, would it make happiness a bit too cheap if we can all want the things we have? Is happiness meant to come with a price? Does happiness only come with hard work and effort? Does happiness only come with pain? Newton defined gravity with his law of motion stating “Every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction.” Is happiness bluntly impossible without the presence of its opposition?
It seems almost as if happiness is not in our nature that we must work so damn hard to be happy. Or perhaps, one too many times we have taken circumstance for granted as we become increasingly desensitised to happiness. World Vision reports that every three seconds a child dies somewhere in the world. Here in Melbourne – where it has been voted the most liveable city in the world this year by the Economist Intelligence Unit – it is simply a mundane challenge to appreciate its clean water, multi-cultural and democratic aspects. Yet, I ensure you we Melbournians have all experienced thirst, hunger and physical pain to some extent.
Is happiness a matter of approach?
